Over the course of his life, John William Godward's style changed dramatically. He started out painting in the Pre-Raphaelite style but quickly developed his own unique painting method. His works focus on the neo-classicist era featuring landscapes and women. Artists and critics praised his work and in 1891 he was made a full member of the Royal Academy of Arts, London.
